My wardrobe.

I have made most of the stuff I am wearing. Here you can see them all lined up.

I started sewing my own clothes this summer (2013) after years of no sewing. Or, years of only sewing random stuff and some kids clothes. Sewing for me took the joy of sewing to a whole new level. Not everything I've made is fantastic, but I learn so much from each project and there is no one more stubborn in the world - a great asset when the machines, fabric and the gods suddenly turn against you ;-)

Made fall of 2013

Gertie's Pencil Skirt. This is Slow Fashion at its best! I made this skirt with so much love. Lots of hand stitching and nice trims to make the skirt just as pretty on the inside as on the outside. This is one garment I am really proud of.

  ---------

Rose top, by Jenny Hellström Patterns. This was without FBA because at the time I hadn't figured out how to do it on a t-shirt. Made out of cotton viscose (rayon). Comfy but ugly. I don't wear it much. I might use it as a pyjamas or something.

 ---------

My third, and best, Alma Blouse by Sewaholic Patterns. This time everything fits like a glove. Made out of Liberty Cotton Lawn and just amazingly comfortable (and schnazzzy). Love!!!

 ---------

My second Alma Blouse by Sewaholic Patterns. Here I've done a FBA but didn't move the darts to point towards apex. Let's just say this is a wearable muslin. Cotton lawn I got pretty much for free.

---------

My first Alma Blouse by Sewaholic Patterns. This was before I knew about FBA hence the huge size. It is made from stretch cotton poplin and is very comfortable to wear.

---------

Coco Skirt by Jenny Hellström Patterns. Made out of raw denim to give it some body. I am wearing this skirt all the time and feel pretty even with baby puke all over me. This can handle to be washed a billion times. Score!

---------

Connie Dress by Eliza M's Vintage Patterns in a FABULOUS vintage fabric designed by Maud Fredin Fredholm. I love love love this dress. I will keep this dress forever.

Just look at that happy face!!

---------

Toto Skirt by Jenny Hellström Patterns. Made from super fine merino wool. It looks a little shapeless on my dress form, but better in reality. I have worn this skirt a ton. I can dress it up or down to fit pretty much any situation.

Here it is paired with Alma Blouse, shown above:

---------

Colette Sorbetto Tank top (free pattern), made from very light and airy cotton voilé. I like this because it will work in summer, obviously, but also in winter under a jacket. Looks smart enough.

Made summer of 2013

Skirt made without pattern. I had a tiny piece of fabulous vintage cotton that screamed at me "I want to be a skirt!". I added some lace down the hem for fun. I have used this skirt a fair bit and I really like it. It is my favourite length too.

---------

Oversize dress made from a Burda Style pattern, made from organic jersey cotton. I added a zipper down the front for easy boob access (since I needed to nurse my baby around the clock all summer). It is kind of cozy (and tent-like), this dress. Not my favourite piece at all, but I have gotten scary amounts of compliments for it. People dig tents, apparently.

---------
This is a dress I made during a summer sew-along, Daisy Dress by Eliza M's Vintage Patterns. This was before I knew about FBA and I had enormous boobs at the time, which caused me huge problems. I am not happy with the fit at all, now that I know what I should have done. I am contemplating taking off the bodice and just adding a new waistband to the skirt. Or maybe I should make a new bodice - I do have plenty of fabric left.... hmm.

It does look pretty with a massive 50's petticoat though:

  1. Hi, this is really inspirational! As a mummy with a 4 year old and a breastfeeding 15 month old, I'm really impressed with how much you manage to sew for yourself with a little one! I sew for the girls, but just can't manage anything for myself as too knackered! Even though I urgently need a new wardrobe as everything I have is size huge to accommodate my (UK) 34E bust....If I ever do get to sew myself something, I will make good use of your FBA and BBA, and am so amazed to discover my small size if I use the FBA measuring process, hooray! How lovely to think one day I will have clothes that don't make me look like a sack as they hang off my big chest :). Thanks!

    1. Thank you!! I have to admit that I haven't updated this section in ages and I am sad to say that I can't use any of these clothes any longer, due to the baby weight that finally came off after my last child :-) Well, that's only a reason to keep sewing, eh?

C'mon and make my day!
